When managing payment costs, you can’t ignore the big picture. Obviously questions like “What is your overall cost of payment acceptance?” and “How much are total costs eating into revenue?” matter and are worth exploring, but they’re just a starting point. When it comes to pulling real insights for making intelligent payment processing decisions aimed at reducing costs and driving growth, you need to dig into the details at the most fundamental level: per transaction.

That’s why we’ve expanded the transaction-level downloads available in Pagos Insights to include Transaction-Level Fees. With these updates, you can now see exactly which fees are tied to each individual transaction across supported processors (currently: Adyen, Braintree, Stripe, dLocal, and PayPal, with Chase coming soon). This gives you a more precise view of what you’re paying for each transaction and why.

What You’ll Find in Standard Transaction Downloads

Pagos Insights is an AI-powered payments intelligence platform, built to ingest and harmonize all your payments data. Monitor your payments performance, identify opportunities for cost reduction, and assess your overall risk with a series of expertly-designed dashboards. With Insights, you can filter for the exact data you need, and download the transaction-level details for internal analysis.

If you’re already using our transaction-level downloads from the Metrics, Charts, or Events sections within Insights, you’ll now see two new fields in the exported file:

  1. Total fee for each transaction in your preferred currency

  2. Fee object (JSON) containing all the individual fee items linked to that transaction

This option keeps the download clean, with one row per transaction; for a deeper dive into the full fee breakdown of that transaction, simply expand the fee object. It’s ideal if your goal is to understand the fees associated with different transactions and slice them by dimensions like payment method, currency, or processor.

When You Need More Granularity

For users who want to dive deeper into fee types, we’ve also introduced transaction-level download capabilities to the Fees by Category and Fees by Subcategory dashboards.

This report includes fee types and the amounts associated with each fee type. As such, it’s ideal for analyzing how much specific fee categories (e.g. interchange or authorization) contribute to your overall costs. Just remember, in this format, each fee has its own row, meaning you’ll see multiple rows per transaction; be careful to avoid double counting!

Turning Data Into Action

Transaction-level fees deliver unmatched flexibility in analyzing the minute details of your payment costs. Use the standard downloads when you want to keep your analysis at the transaction level but still see the full cost picture. Switch to the fee-by-transaction downloads when you need to answer more detailed questions, like which fee types drive the highest costs in certain regions or for certain processors. With both options, you can move from high-level assumptions to precise insights and make smarter, more informed decisions about your payments strategy.

Perhaps most importantly, Pagos’ transaction-level downloads bring all your costs together from each processor you use. From a single tool, you can download every transaction-level fee in a consistent format, structured for analysis and comparison. That consistency makes it far easier to act on your data, so you can finally get the clarity you need to take control of your payment costs.
